Eric Clapton Playing His Gibson Sg Les Paul

An Interesting video of Eric Clapton from his years with cream playing on his psychedelic Gibson SG Les Paul guitar which was previously owned by George Harrison and painted by " the fool " design art team..

This was the time when heavy fuzz and wah-wah pedals were newly introduced and gaining popularity. 

The guitar he's playing with is a 1964 Gibson SG Les Paul Standard (painted) that he replaced after he got his Les Paul standard stolen. 

During the early seventies the guitar was sold to Todd Rundgren. The original SG guitar that he's using in the video on the vintage market is valued at over $450 000.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe (1969-1985) The Gibson Les Paul Deluxe electric guitar was originally released in 1969, it was a renamed guitar and originated from the Gibson Les Paul Standard (gold top model). If you are having trouble dating and identifying a Gibson guitar the first thing you want to check is the serial number.. Gibson's serial number system through out the years have changed multiple times, their serial numbers can give you some valuable information on a particular guitar if you know how they worked. Here are some good pointers to remember without going into details.. 1. If you are buying a vintage Gibson guitar and the seller claims that it was made in 1935 the serial number can not be more than 5 digits and can not have a letter. From 1902 to 1947 Gibson serial numbers started at 100 to 99999. 2. From 1947 to 1961 Gibson serial numbers started with an "A" usually followed by 3 to 6 digits. 3. From 1961 to 1969 Gibson gave their guitars random serial numbers, they are the hardest to identify during these years but luckily there is a guide. Below are the serial ranges and dates. Gibson Les Paul Custom ( 1954 - present ) Nicknamed : Black Beauty During the early 50s Gibson went through some crucial changes on the Les Paul Goldtop model with their hardware and electronics , their guitars had an intonation problem until the tune-o-matic bridges was invented by Ted Mcarty in 1954.
