I have a Gibson that has LG 6 (I think) printed on the inside. I was going to sell it to a guy at a music store, but he only offered to pay me $120; surely it is worth more than that? Help please? It has a serial number that dates it in the early 60's. How much is it really worth?? Thanks so very much!

I recently retired and own a Gibson 1941 L-7, blond archtop, with an original, hand wound, D Armond "guitar mike". I was told that there were very few blonds created. Can anyone point me to where I might find such info? or better yet, if you know how many were actually made, just tell me! Thanks, Dave

I have an old Gibson. It was passed down from my G. Grandmother.
The history so I'm told goes like this.... It was made in 1927. My G.mother said it was a mandocello and that Gibson only made 27 of them.(Maybe a proto-type?)In doing research, it looks more like an L-1.
There is a white faded tag with what looks like a serial # on it A-0014. There is another white tag that has a faded name on it. ( could this be a craftman's name)?.
It has The Gibson in fancy letters on the peg head, the frets are inlaid mother-of-pearl, and the tunning pegs are made of ivory.
Any help in solving this mystery will be gratly appreciated!

I have a Gibson L4 that has a S/N that puts it somehwere around 1928. It has had the neck re-set and a later model fretboard put on. when I got it it was in the wrst condition you could ever imagine. I paid nearly $1,400 for it and still do not know if it was a good buy. I was able to play it just a little in its condition and it had a great sound. I took it home and tweaked the trapeze to coincide with the reset neck and it plays like a dream. I do not believe in leaving a vintage guitar in the shape it is found if it is moldy and gunky with build up etc. So I cleaned it up and it is a great instrument. I also believe in performing with such an instrument if it has what it takes. Does anyone have experience at taking a vintage instrument and making it stage ready?

I would like to build an L-1 flat top tribute for my own enjoyment. The reissues are too high and the new Epi's have a different lower bout shape. I understand some of them had three piece necks, (mahogany, ebony & ?), along with maple sides and back, and of course a spruce top. Others had mahogany sides and backs. I have been unable to locate an original to measure, and I have searched the usual places for designs. No luck so far. Has anyone built one or know for sure where a set of blue prints could be purchased? I would prefer to measure an oldie from the 20's or 30's, rather than a re-issue. Even an accurate outline tracing of the body would be better than what I have now.
Any help is appreciated.

This is a great place to get some info on the L-1!! I bought my 1911 L-1 on Ebay when it was just an infant on the net. I had bid $50.00 and no one else bid on it. Well to make a long story short, I won the bid and did get the guitar for $50.00! Plus the woman paid to have it packed up and shipped to me via Fedex. I sent an email to her asking for her phone number and then called her to say the guitar was worth much more than that and what would she really take for it. She said a winning bid was a winning bid and went on to say it was her husbands and he bought it new at a music store in NYC back in 1911. The only bad thing is that the pickgard crumbled in transit so I am looking for an orgiginal or an aftermarket guard that is proper to the guitar. I can be reached at clearyr95@gmail.com if you have one or know where one may be purchased. Thanks in advance..

this is to general public and anyone savvy in gibson appraisals and history. i have what looks like a baby gibson acoustic but from what i can tell it is an L G 3/4. this is the only printed lettering inside the guitar and 1956 written in pen or something. its a legit gibson i just don't know what model, how old, or the approximate value. if anyone can tell me my e-mail is d_iceij@sbcglobal.net. i'd greatly appreciate it. oh the guitar's measurements are 3 1/2" deep, 12 1/2" wide at widest base point, 17" long body, and 37" total length. thanks for any input.
