Gibson SG Special (1959- 1978)  In 1959 until early 1961 the SG Special had a double rounded cutaway and were made with rounded horns, they had no model name on the peg head and were made in cherry or cream finish. In 1961 the Gibson SG Les Paul Standard and the Gibson SG Les Custom were introduced on the market and until this day these Gibson guitars are some of the most popular electric guitars ever made. Gibson "The Paul" Standard (1978-1982)  During the late 70s Gibson Les Paul standard, custom and deluxe guitars along side Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster were pretty much dominating the market, especially for heavier rock music. These guitars were great but a little pricy for some, Gibson wanted to try a new line of less expensive but good enough to play on stage guitars to accommodate the student or the guitar player who didn't want to invest too much on a guitar . Gibson SJN Country Western ( 1956-1978 )  In 1956 Gibson introduced a natural finish version of the Gibson southern jumbo with a mahogany body (flat top) back and sides and called it the Gibson country western guitar, they made them in natural finish and were discontinued in 1978. From 1956 to 62 the Gibson Country Western acoustic guitar had round shoulders, from mid 1962 and on they had a 3 point pick guards, square shoulders, and were renamed the SJN Country Western .  From 1962 to 1968 specs basically stayed the same until 1969 when the guitar was fitted with a bridge below the belly. In 1970 the SJN country western was again renamed the SJN Deluxe Country Western and were produced with minor changes until 1978.  1970 to 1971, non adjustable saddles were fitted, 1972 to 1973 they had an unbound fingerboard and from 1974 to 1978 (4ply-Binding).
